Welcome to the Early Years Centre

Welcome to the Early Years Centre

Welcome to St Andrew’s Early Years Centre.  We provide high quality learning experiences for our youngest children, from age 2, in purpose built accommodation as part of the Primary School. The team is led by an Early Years teacher, supported by other highly qualified staff. We have excellent facilities both inside and out, to enable to children to flourish in a caring and supportive environment where each child’s needs are developed.

The Early Years Centre is able to access all of the facilities and be managed by the school to ensure a smooth and continous transition into school life.

We currently have vacancies for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. Funding is available for 15 hours a week for all 3 and 4 year olds (starting the term after your child's 3rd birthday). Some funding is available for 2 year olds who meet certain criteria. Please contact the office for more information.

Due to high demand, we strongly advise that parents visit the Early Years Centre and register before their child turns two. This will help to ensure that we can offer your child the sessions you would prefer by allowing us to plan ahead for the statutory staffing requirements.

Please come and have a look at our fantastic facilities to see for yourself!  Click here to arrange a visit or ring 01460 220534. For a copy of our prospectus please click on the information section.

Governor Visit to Early Years

On 24th November Katherine Mansi and I made a visit to Maple Class and Pre-school to learn more about the quality of Early Years provision at St Andrew's. We wanted to hear from the staff how these very young children are assessed, how extra support is provided if necessary and how the transition between pre-school and school is organised.

We both enjoyed a busy morning in which we watched a phonics session and worship, observed children at work and play, and talked to the staff and children. We were very impressed with the children's behaviour which was consistently good in all activities. They were not distracted by us as visitors and were open and confident when talking with us.

We now understand more about assessment and have heard how the staff have enjoyed and benefited from networking across other Early Years settings in the MAT to share knowledge and ideas, and how they are looking forward to ensuring even better transition arrangements between pre-school and school. Mud Glorious Mud

Mud Glorious Mud

Did someone say mud kitchen...

This week has welcomed the start of our mud kitchen in pre-school and oh what fun we have had. We have been putting together recipies for our concoctions making, remaking and perfecting them. The mud kitchen is full of sensory opportunities for us and enables us to work on our gross and fine motor skills. As well as having fun experimenting with a variety of different and some unusual kitchen utensils.

Rain or shine our mud kitchen shall be out, please may we ask that you wear old clothes and wellies to pre-school and bring with you plenty of spare clothes to change into. If you have waterproof trousers or all in ones bring them too as it will save on the washing!

Any donations of unwanted or unused waterproofs or kitchen items would be much appriciated.

We have been developing our understanding of growth and noticing changes over time. We have planted sunflower seeds taking care of them and closely observing them. We have watched the stems and leaves develop and are patiently waiting for beautiful sunflowers to appear.

This week we worked together helping one another to plant potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and radishes. We are excited to return after half term and see if our predictions of what we think will happen are correct! We shall be continuing our growing after half term planting beans, cress caterpillars and grass heads.

What fun we have had exploring and experimenting with our new hollow wooden blocks. We have had obstacle courses, towers, diving boards, slides, picnic tables, computers, houses and ramps for the toy cars, along with a stage for our musical performances! Children and staff have most certainly been busy, keep your eyes peeled for more of our fabulous creations!
